TruckEast gets its trainers on for charity!
A team of staff and families from TruckEast successfully completed the BUPA Great North Run on Sunday 18th September 2011 to raise funds for Sense, the national deafblind charity.
The team of 9 consisted of 5 staff from TruckEast - Scania truck dealer and HGV service and maintenance experts – headed up by Graham Broughton, General Manager of the Wellingborough Dealer Point. Other runners from TruckEast were Barry Hambridge, Kev York, Jack Addis and Toni Coelho. Graham’s daughters Lauren and Jenna, plus their boyfriends made up the rest of the team. After following Graham’s training schedule, they all completed the 13.1-mile challenge, raising a combined total of over £2,600 for deafblind children and adults.
Graham completed the race in under 2 hours, beating his target time in spite of picking up a knee ligament injury at mile 10. “I’m really pleased to have completed the Great North Run. It was hard work and a lot of training, but it was worth it to know we’ve raised so much money to support deafblind people.” He also had something else to celebrate on the finish line – his daughter Lauren’s boyfriend Craig proposed after they had crossed the line together!
You can still sponsor the team by visiting: http://www.justgiving.com/teams/teamscania. The money raised by Graham and the team in the Great North Run will help deafblind children and adults overcome the isolation that they face on a daily basis and enjoy some of the things that most people take for granted.
