Energy Efficiency at Wellingborough Depot
TruckEast’s Wellingborough Depot has recently undergone an overall of all of its lighting to help reduce its carbon emissions and reduce running costs.
All lighting in both offices and workshops has been replaced with low energy, high efficiency lighting following a test study of possible savings carried out in March 2009. The test, carried out in the workshop, predicted a power saving of 56% and an increase in brightness of 152%. Carrying these results through to the rest of the building means an overall annual saving on lighting costs of around £20,000, and a reduction in CO2 output of 40 tonnes per year.
Upgrading the whole building has involved every light-fitting being upgraded at an investment cost of over £22,000. But with the savings gained, this will be paid back in just 13 months.
In addition, the upgrade has been funded by a zero interest loan from The Carbon Trust under their Big Business Refit programme, which helps businesses update old and inefficient equipment.
Graham Broughton, General Manager of TruckEast’s Wellingborough Service Depot and Accident Repair Centre added: “Its been a great success on all levels. Not only are we reducing our carbon footprint and benefiting from drastic savings, the quality of lighting has also improved dramatically. The light levels, particularly in the workshop, are much better than before which has helped improve working conditions.”
