Operation Falloff

On Tuesday 22nd February 2011 between the hours of 10am and 4pm PCSO 3098 David Harvey and PCSO 3213 Samuel Knibbs from Stowmarket’s Safer Neighbourhood Team, attended Scania TruckEast on Violet Hill Road, Stowmarket, where they carried out a free catalytic marking service.

The catalytic converters were engraved with the vehicles registration mark and sprayed with a heat resistant paint. Additionally a window sticker was provided to the owner that could be displayed in the vehicle identifying its markings.

Suffolk police said “Within the current economic climate and the increasing price of scrap metal and spare parts, there has been a noticeable increase in the theft of catalytic converters from vehicles across the county.”

Sergeant Neil Paterson went on to say “Today has proved to be a great success. With over 20 vehicles that attended, and with the assistance provided to us from Scania TruckEast, our intention was to adopt best practice in the prevention of this type of offence by the pro-active targeting of potential victims of crime and their vehicles”
