  The environment

Scania’s guiding principle is to minimise the environmental impact of each Scania vehicle throughout its lifecycle.

Our goal is to provide customers with the best possible combination of operating economy and environmental performance. We believe that the diesel engine powered by diesel fuel with a low sulphur and aromatic content offers the best alternative for the foreseeable future.

By using new technology and improving existing methods, Scania is making the diesel engine more efficient while at the same time reducing exhaust emissions. Scania has developed SCR and EGR technologies to ensure that customers get the best and most appropriate solution for each transport task. For buses and coaches, our long-term solution for Euro 4, Euro 5 and beyond is Scania EGR.

Scania has an enviable track record of improving torque, fuel efficiency and driveability while reducing exhaust emissions to meet ever stricter regulations. The steps through Euro 1, Euro 2, Euro 3 and now Euro 4 have all been achieved in this way, and we expect this track record to be maintained with Euro 5 in 2009.

Scania’s hybrid drive technology, which is under development and scheduled for launch at the end of the decade, is expected to improve fuel efficiency by at least 25 percent.
