These inline six cylinder engines the latest generation of engine management and injection systems to produce highly-efficient outputs. Generous torque is developed low down the rev range, resulting in easy driveability.
There are two Euro 3 variants (420 and 470) and four Euro 4 variants (340, 380, 420 and 470) that will meet the needs of the vast majority of truck operators.
A special feature of all these engines is Scania HPI. Clean and efficient outputs are ensured by the adoption of refined technology known as Time Pressure Metering.
This advanced system allows constantly and infinitely variable minor adjustments to both timing of injection and volume of fuel used, resulting in consistently efficient performance. Refinement of the system is also exhibited by lower noise levels.
The 470 and Euro 4 420 engines have the added benefit of Scania Turbocompounding: a second turbocharger extracts yet more energy from exhaust gases to give an added boost by adding momentum at the flywheel, to enhance performance and economy.
